What to expect during my Initial Osteo consult?

During your first Osteopathic consultation here at Lalor Soma Osteopathy, one of our professional Osteopaths will allocate 60 minutes to listen to your symptoms, establish a working diagnosis and provide you with an individualised management plan, taking into account any underlying pathologies and abilities.

Prior to the consultation, you will be required to fill out a medical history form. If you have had prior x-ray/CT/MRI scans conducted we suggest you bring these in for you initial consultation. For all patients who have been referred to our clinic for an Osteopathic opinion & management via their GP, please ensure that you bring in all medical forms issued by your doctor.

The first part of the consultation will involve understanding your current medical history/all underlying pathologies, as well as attain a thorough history on your current symptoms.

From there, an examination will be conducted. This involves a blood pressure check, visual examination and palpation of the key site(s) of concern, active and passive range of motion assessment, orthopaedic examinations and neurological examinations where required.

Following this examination, your Osteo will explain the working diagnosis, treatment and management approach required. Along the way if you have any questions, questions are answered and are always welcomed and encouraged.

At times, further imaging via x-ray, ultrasound, CT or MRI may be required.

Your Osteo may also suggest a referral to other practitioners, in cases where this may be required, such as to a GP, specialist, physiotherapist, podiatrist, optometrist or dietitian.
